Benefits of Chorophyll

Posted on 02.07.16 | wanda | 1 Comment

What is chlorophyll?
Chlorophyll is a green pigment crucial to the process of photosynthesis. It is present in all plants and algae and facilitates the transformation of sunlight into a usable form of energy. Chlorophyll intake is important for humans because it helps regenerate our bodies at a cellular level. It’s molecular structure is very close to that of hemoglobin, the main difference being the center ring of magnesium present in chlorophyll rather than the iron found in hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the protein molecule that distributes oxygen around the body and makes up a substantial part of our red blood cells. The amazing thing about chlorophyll is that our bodies are able to convert it to hemoglobin which in turn, helps cleanse the body.

Reported Benefits
Chlorophyll provides a wide array of benefits ranging from anti-inflammatory properties to the ability to bind to and remove heavy metals. Research shows that it plays in a role in:

  • Protection from cancer and radiation
  • Wound healing
  • Blood cleansing
  • Detoxification
  • Intestinal health
  • Internal deodorization
  • Reducing cholesterol

Sources of chlorophyll
Generally speaking, the darker green the vegetable, the more chlorophyll it contains. Some notable sources of chlorophyll are green and blue-green algae, wheatgrass, buckwheat, green leafy sprouts, sea vegetables, spinach, asparagus, broccoli, celery, collard greens, kale, parsley, romaine, lettuce and green cabbage.
To offset the array of harmful chemicals we’re bombarded with every day, it is beneficial to add liquid chlorophyll to our diets to maximize the health benefits. This can be done by adding 1 tablespoon daily to water or juice. Liquid chlorophyll can also be used as an implant after an enema when undergoing a detox program.
